PD is a progressive and chronic disease.
It is also an neurological disease. PD is a second highest numbers disease besides the Alzheimer"s for those at the age above 60 years old. There are 2 % of PD at age above 60 in Malaysia and Singapore. More numbers at younger age of PD is growing.
Some PD patients are wrongly diagnosed as a process of age ageing by general doctors and therefore no requirement for treatment until the situation worsen. Besides there are shortage of PD specialists to treat the diseases.
In Malaysia there is only one PD specialist and are so far 5 specialists in Singapore.
Besides patients have self denial once they are detected and do not cooperative with doctors to continue for treatment until the situation worsen.
They feel anger, grief and bargain with doctors. They only accepted for treatment once they see no hope to normal.
It is too late as PD is a progressive disease.
It is also difficulty to diagnose the PD as other's diseases have the same symptoms. Neurologist need two years studies in Movement disorders.
Some doctors find difficulties to optimize with the combination of Medicine as some PD patients do not understand the symptoms thus a communication breakdown between the doctors and the patients.
As times progress with the disease the situation are worsen.
The medicine have side effect on PD patients. There are constipation, nausea, bloating, emotional depression and etc.
As PD patient do not learn how to manage and control the diseases they depend on doctor on each visit. Therefore their situation worsen with times. Knowledge about the disease is powerful to slowdown it's progression.
Some patients do not die on PD itself but die of other diseases made worsen by PD.
It is not a fatal disease like cancer but it is not "go away" disease.

In Singapore Parkinson Disease is becoming a common problem as our population ages. There are out of 2% population at above 50 years old suffer disorder disease.
As the age population grow the percentage of this group will be increasing. It is not including the younger age i.e at the age below 50 years old PD patients.
Therefore better public awareness will help the patients to seek for treatment as there are effective medication to slowdown from its progression.
It highlights the cause of the disease, signs and symptoms and therapy, aid to caregiver, diet and support group to give advice on how to achieve the best quality of life i.e. to stay health.
