PD is a progressive and chronic disease.
It is also an neurological disease. PD is a second highest numbers disease besides the Alzheimer"s disease for those at the age above 60 years old.
There are one million PD patients in USA. Some PD patients are wrongly diagnosed as aging and no medication for treatment as there are shortage of PD specialists to treat the sickness.
In Malaysia there is only one PD specialist and there are so far 5 specialists in Singapore.
PD patients have self denial once they are detected and do not cooperative with doctors to continue for treatment.
They feel anger, grief and bargain with doctors.
They only accepted for treatment once they see no hope to become normal.
It is too late for them as the PD is a progressive disease.
PD is difficulty to diagnose as the syndroms varies from one person to other.
Doctors find difficulties to optimized the combination of Medicine with PD as some PD patients do not understand the sickness and there are a communication breadown between the doctors and the patients.
As times pass by the sickness made worsen.
Besides the medicines have asideeffect on patients i.e constipation, nausea.
They depend on doctors each time and do not know how to manage and control the disease.
PD patients do not die on PD itself but die of other diseases, a fatal complication diseases made worsen by PD itself.
PD itself is not a fatal disease like cancer. Teo Kim Hoe

As the age population grow the percentage of this group will be increasing. It is not including the younger age i.e at the age below 50 years old PD patients. Therefore better public awareness will help the patients to seek for treatment as there are effective medication to slowdown from its progression. It highlights the cause of the disease, signs and symptoms and therapy, aid to caregiving, diet and support group to give advice on how to achieve the best quality of life i.e. to stay health.
